Empty Office Building to Become Beacon of Hope for the Impoverished in Pittsburgh
Catholic Charities of Pittsburgh is launching its compassion corner initiative, which will transform a vacant 45,000 square foot building into a center for health care and mental health services, job training and meal programs, and a variety of other resources. The Executive Director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Susan Rauscher, joins to explain the genesis of this program and the need in Pittsburgh for such a facility.

The Gismondi Job Training Program, funded by the Gismondi Family Foundation, is a 12-week course where adults are taught the ins and outs of telecommunication technologies — such as copper and fiber optics cabling systems, wireless systems, and grounding — to help them secure jobs in the industry.

Free dental, vision, hearing clinic reaches capacity
WPXI - For the second day in a row, a free dental, vision and hearing clinic in Pittsburgh has reached capacity.
Organizers of the Mission of Mercy event at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center sent out an update at 2:30 p.m., saying 1,520 patients received care or will receive care between Friday and Saturday. Organizers decided to close the doors to the clinic to allow dentists and clinicians to treat hundreds of patients still waiting for treatment. Last year, the clinic treated 1,465 patients.

Through the generosity of donors who support the United Way of Washington County’s Community Impact Fund, 20 nonprofit community partners, including Catholic Charities, are receiving $252,505 of funding for the second-year of the multi-year FY2022-2024 Community Impact Fund.

Butler and Lawrence counties: The Roselia Pregnancy and Parenting Support Services of Catholic Charities is seeking a telephone operator to ensure helpful and compassionate communications to clients. You will be responsible for answering our phone line and making reminder calls. Additional tasks include sorting donations and helping mothers with needed items such as clothes, diapers and wipes.

We’ve been working with Andrea on her life goals and skills. She first came to us perpetually without resources and always in crisis. She decided one of most powerful things she could do for her and her baby would be to find steady employment. Working on her interview skills, however, was tedious, and she wasn’t shy in telling us.
