Because all kids should get to be kids

Catholic Charities hosts final Jessie Games of the summer on August 6

Pittsburgh, PA -- Saturday, August 6, marks the final Jessie Games event for the summer, hosted by Catholic Charities, Diocese of Pittsburgh. The games will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 3001 Cool Springs Drive in Pittsburgh.

Presented annually, the event organizes games and activities for agency clients. This year, we’re also welcoming displaced children and their parents from Afghanistan and Ukraine alongside families served through our Roselia Pregnancy and Parenting and Family Christmas Plan programs.

“The Jessie Games are all about letting kids be kids,” says Susan Rauscher, Executive Director of Catholic Charities. “Kids easily pick up on adult stress, even when as parents and caregivers we try to shield them from grown-up challenges. The Jessie Games are all about good times, joy and giving families a break from daily pressures. Summer fun holds great healing power.”

"The Jessie Games" was first held in July 2014 to honor the memory and life of the late Jessie Egan Smith who died in 2013 at the young age of 23. A graduate of Seton-LaSalle High School who attended Duquesne University, Jessie enjoyed sports, especially running, and participated in both the Erie Half Marathon and Pittsburgh Marathon. Her family and friends organized "The Jessie Games" to celebrate Jessie's competitive spirit, compassion for others, and love for children in need.
