Staff Accountant

Position Overview:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for the processing of GL, AR, and AP transactions and other month end closing processes. This positon is also responsible for assisting the senior accountant with budgeting and reporting of assigned programs to ensure agency compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.

Key Performance Objectives:

  • Processes transactions for the month end closing process including booking GL, cash, AR, and AP entries, reconciling accounts and assisting with preparing reports.
  • Maintains accounting records in accordance with GAAP to ensure they accurately reflect the program's financial position.
  • Prepares and monitors monthly reports, statistical forms, financial statements, and other documents in order to provide accurate and current program and operational data.
  • Prepares and submits invoices to funding sources to ensure reimbursement for operation of agency programs.
  • Prepares schedules and analysis in conjunction with month end closing, annual audit, annual financial reporting and government filings with external and government auditors, accountants, staff and Finance Committee
  • Assist with budget preparation for all areas to ensure stable funding of agency operations and organization wide planning processes.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is required.
  • A minimum of three years of accounting experience is required.
  • Previous accounting experience in a non-profit field is preferred.
  • Working knowledge and application of GAAP is preferred.
  • The demonstrated ability to be a self-starter while working cooperatively in a team environment is required.
  • Previous experience with producing financial documents with clearly organized information that supports monitoring and analysis activities is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Experience with Federal, State, and Local government funding is preferred.
  • Advanced MS Office skills are required.
  • Knowledge & experience working with accounting software is required
  • Act 33/34 and FBI clearances are required.
