Volunteer Opportunities
If you want to make a real difference in the lives of those in need, then consider volunteering at Catholic Charities. You provide the gifts of your time and talent, and we'll provide the appropriate training and the opportunities. Volunteers are needed for the following programs and county office sites:
Basic Needs Assistance Program
Located in our downtown Pittsburgh office, this program helps individuals and families with utility bill payment, food, clothing, and other emergency needs. Working with our team of caseworkers, you must display sensitivity to the needs of others. This is a fast-paced environment as the program averages more than 100 requests for services a day!
- Answering the phone
- Maintaining a current resource file and filing system
- Greeting Clients
- Organizing donated items for distribution

Catholic Charities' County Offices
Catholic Charities maintains an office in all six counties of the Diocese of Pittsburgh—Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Greene, Lawrence, Washington - with volunteer opportunities at all office sites:
- Answering Phones
- Maintaining a current resource file and filing system
- Photocopying and helping with mailings
- Providing assistance with pregnancy and parenting support staff

Challenges: Options In Aging Community Center
If you want to volunteer in a state-of-the-art facility that promotes wellness for older individuals, then come to Challenges in New Castle.

Meal Server. Assist staff with the set up, service and clean up of the Center’s Café Your Way and group meal programs.

Line Dance Instructor. Motivate and encourage movement with our older individuals by teaching new steps and coordinating special performances.

Blood Pressure Screeners. Assist staff with monitoring client blood pressures.

Fitness Room Assistant. Assist staff as they help new members learn proper use of equipment; help to clean, sanitize and maintain equipment.

Events
If you're a planner or someone who wants to put their creativity to good use, then volunteering with a Catholic Charities event may be right for you. There are several fundraising events and other events throughout the year including: community dinners, golf outings, musical events and conferences.
- Pre-event and help during an event including: set up, registration, greeter, serving refreshments
- Serve on one of our event planning committees.

Refugee Services
For more than 30 years, Catholic Charities has helped to resettle individuals and families who have been declared refugees by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. You can help Catholic Charities make their transition easier by volunteering with the following:
- Pre-arrival. Assist with apartment set-ups.
- Post-arrival. Assist with transportation to and from medical appointments and other social service agencies.
- Assist with homemaking and life-skills training, and accessing additional community services.

Susan Zubik Welcome Center
The Susan Zubik Welcome Center is located on the first floor of the Catholic Charities administration building at 212 Ninth Street in downtown Pittsburgh. It serves as a multi-functional space that houses a reception area, children’s play area, computer lab, and a meeting space.
- Greet clients and escort them to their appointment in the building
- Assist clients with employment search and resume writing in the computer lab
