For Immediate Release Contact: Angie Wagner Catholic Charities Offers Program on “Surviving and Thriving After Divorce”
Pittsburgh – The loss, grief and anxiety caused by divorce can be far-reaching and devastating to men and women alike. They often feel alone and unsure of how to cope with the difficult changes they are experiencing. Those who have suffered a painful divorce can find the resources they need at “Surviving and Thriving After Divorce,” an eight-week group program sponsored by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The group will meet on Wednesday evenings beginning March 22, at the Catholic Charities office at 212 Ninth Street in downtown Pittsburgh. Catholic Charities has been leading divorce group programs since 1998. They typically are kept small with no more than 15 participants, and are made up of both men and women. Issues addressed can include coping with anger and loneliness, handling children and extended family concerns, and developing positive relationships. “It’s extremely empowering,” said Pam Alexander Blackwood, LSW, the licensed social worker who will lead the group along with Jackie Apone, LCSW. “We will work on ways to cope with a range of feelings related to divorce, and how to use relaxation exercises, meditation and prayer to help make changes. Participants can expect to make significant gains by the end of the eight weeks.” A pre-group interview is required in order to enroll in the program. For more information or to schedule an interview, please call (412) 456-6999 by March 15. ###
