Meet Our Counseling Staff
Allegheny County
Ann Depner, MSW, LCSW
Ann Depner is a licensed clinical social worker and the director of Catholic Charities’ counseling program, also known as Family Services Counseling. Ann has provided individual, family, marital, and group therapy for over 25 years, and she supervises the clinical work of all therapists on staff. Ann also coordinates the Rachel’s Vineyard program, a therapeutic retreat for post-abortion healing. She currently serves on the faculty of the Western Pennsylvania Family Center, where she teaches postgraduate seminars on family systems theory and its clinical applications. An accomplished speaker, Ann has presented locally and nationally on topics such as men and grief, anger and forgiveness, self-injurious behavior, and post-abortion trauma and healing.
Jacqueline Apone, MSW, LCSW
Jacqueline Apone is a licensed clinical social worker who serves as intake coordinator for Family Services Counseling. Jackie conducts the initial diagnostic assessments for new counseling clients and also provides ongoing therapy for individuals, couples, and families at the Pittsburgh office. Her background of over 30 years in the mental health field includes postgraduate study in family systems theory and an advanced training certificate in cognitive therapy. Jackie has special expertise in the areas of anger management, anxiety reduction, mindfulness meditation, and stress management. She facilitates the “Project Anger” group, which helps clients to manage anger in ways that enhance rather than harm their relationships.
John Duffy, PhD, MSCP
John Duffy recently joined the counseling staff at Catholic Charities with a PhD from Duquesne University in counseling, counselor education, and counselor supervision. John also has a master’s degree from Chatham College in counseling psychology. Much of John’s background is in the biological sciences, where he worked in the healthcare field for 20 years. John currently provides individual, couple, and family therapy at both the Pittsburgh office and at the satellite office in Lawrenceville at Our Lady of the Angels Parish. He has specialized expertise in the areas of marital conflict and addictions.
Lisa Hommel, MSW, LCSW
Lisa Hommel is a licensed clinical social worker who has been with Catholic Charities for eight years. Lisa provides individual, marital, and family therapy at the St. Bernadette counseling office in Monroeville. She has special expertise in work with families of children and adolescents and adoptive families. Her professional interests include the integration of spirituality with family and emotional life, and the use of laughter and humor as therapeutic tools. Lisa has a master's degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh and certification in therapy with survivors of physical and sexual abuse. A popular speaker, Lisa has given presentations on topics ranging from "Parenting Adopted Children" to "A Christian Perspective on Conflict and Forgiveness."
Karen LaFrance, MSW, LCSW
Karen LaFrance is a licensed clinical social worker with a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and over 30 years of experience in the mental health profession. Karen provides individual, couple, family, and group therapy at both the Pittsburgh office and the satellite office in Wexford at St. Alexis Parish. Karen tailors her therapeutic style to the needs of her clients and draws upon both family systems and cognitive-behavioral theories, often using a psychoeducational approach. Her areas of specialty include anger management, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transition, post-abortion healing, marital conflict, stress management, codependency, and the integration of spirituality with family and emotional life.
Cynthia Prezkop, MSW LCSW
Cynthia Prezkop is a licensed clinical social worker who received a Joint Master’s degree in Social Work and Pastoral Ministry from Boston College in 1994. She joined Catholic Charities’ part-time counseling staff in 2001 and provides individual, family, and marital counseling to clients at the St. Maurice satellite office in Forest Hills. As a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Cynthia also holds the full-time position of Pastoral Associate for St. Angela Merici Parish in White Oak. Cynthia has special clinical expertise in the areas of developmental disabilities, grief and loss, marital conflict, and the integration of spirituality into family and emotional life.
Judith Zemanick, MSW LCSW
Judy Zemanick is a graduate of St. Louis University and the University of Pittsburgh, receiving her master’s degree in social work in 1984. She is a licensed clinical social worker and a Clinical Diplomate of the National Association of Social Workers. Judy has been employed at Catholic Charities since 1984, providing individual, family, marital, and group therapy. Judy’s clinical approach makes use of family systems and cognitive-behavioral theories. She has special expertise in the areas of marital conflict, parent-child issues, depression, anxiety, and women’s issues. Judy sees clients at the satellite offices of St. Elizabeth Parish in Pleasant Hills, Our Lady of Grace in Scott Township, and St. Louise de Marillac in Upper St. Clair.

Otilia CostaLima, M.Ed
Otilia received her undergraduate degree in Clinical Psychology at Faculdades Sao Marcos in Sao Paulo, Spain and her Masters in Educational Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. She is bilingual and brings a multicultural perspective to her counseling and parenting education for young mothers. Additional areas of expertise include individual and family therapy; conflict resolution and crisis intervention; and career counseling.
Butler County
Kelly M. Jamieson, MSCP
With a Masters degree in counseling, Kelly is the family/worker therapist for the Butler office. She has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, families and couples. She also facilitates a monthly open grief support group at St. Ferdinand Church in Cranberry Township.
Beaver County
Kuang-Chen Martin, M.S., LMFT
Kuang is the Director of the Beaver County Office of Catholic Charities. She is a licensed Marriage and Family therapist with a Masters degree in Marital and Family therapy. She has also completed a Master level program in Educational Psychology. As a therapist, Kuang specializes in couples, children, individual and family counseling. She has even published a book on relationships. Before moving to the United States, Kuang worked as a school guidance counselor and psychologist for 12 years in Taiwan.
Jessica Zacharko, M.A.
Jessica joined the staff of Catholic Charities over a year ago. She obtained her B.S. in Psychology and Masters degree in Marriage and Family therapy from Geneva College and is working towards her LPC. She has experience working with local women’s and crisis pregnancy centers and children with autism spectrum disorders.
Greene County
Bernie Fox, MSW, LCSW
Bernie is Director of Family Services for Catholic Charities’ Greene County office. In that capacity, she provides outpatient family counseling for adults, adolescents and children to address a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, anger, physical and sexual abuse and relationship problems. Prior to her employment with Catholic Charities, Bernie provided mental health counseling in a number of skilled nursing facilities and in her own private practice.
Lorie Zator, MSW, LSW
Lorie has been a family/worker therapist for Catholic Charities since 1998. Lorie provides family counseling in a variety of areas but specializes in anger management, depression and parenting. Previously, she worked as a medical social worker for the Washington Hospital Family Practice.
Lawrence County
Ann Brandt, MS, PC, PCC-S
Ann is the Director of Family Services for the Lawrence County office of Catholic Charities. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Secondary Education from Westminister College and obtained a scholarship for graduate studies in Educational Administration from Arizona State University. She also served as a graduate assistant in the Community Counseling graduate program at Youngstown State University. Ann has extensive training in the treatment of mental health and drug and alcohol issues in children, adolescents and families. She has conducted several workshops on depression, anxiety, bereavement, drug and alcohol addiction, and challenges facing families.
Tracey Apa, MA
Tracey has an undergraduate degree in Human Development from Penn State University and a Masters in Counseling from Geneva College. She currently is working towards her licensure. Her specialty areas are family therapy and drug and alcohol counseling. She also has extensive knowledge and conducted research on Munchausen Syndrome.
Jill Bentley, MA
Jill received her Masters degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from Geneva College. She serves as a caseworker with Catholic Charities’ pregnancy and parenting program and as an intern for individual, family, and drug and alcohol counseling. Jill is beginning to develop a strong base of experience in dealing with women and children.
Evelyn Eddy, BA CAC
Evelyn obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice from Youngstown State University and then graduated from the police academy in Mahoning County. Prior to coming to Catholic Charities, Evelyn worked for the Lawrence County Area Agency on Aging, now Catholic Charities’ Challenges-Options in Aging program. Evelyn currently works in the Drug and Alcohol program and received her certification in addictions counseling. Her focus is working with adolescent girls and pregnant women. She is a trainer for the Clean Air for Healthy Children Program that was developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the PA chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Joel Wood, MA, NCC, LPC
Joel has worked in the mental health field for over a dozen years, including community, inpatient, hospital, outpatient and consultant areas. Joel is a National Certified Counselor, practices in Pennsylvania as a Professional Counselor and completed graduate-level concentration in medical rehabilitation.
Prior to joining Catholic Charities, Joel worked alongside law enforcement professionals while facilitating the specialized treatment of sexual aggressors as well as persons convicted of sexually violent crimes.
Joel’s work also included the treatment of victims of sexual as well as physical abuse. These experiences involved working directly with the court system and a consultant polygrapher to make probation supervision as well as Children/Youth Services recommendations.
In Lawrence County, Joel conducts some clinical supervision and maintains case loads of substance abuse as well as mental health clients.
Washington County
Christine Wissner, MSW, M.Div
Christine has a background in program administration, counseling and education. She is the Director of the Washington County office and also provides counseling to students from local school districts in the Student Assistance Program. She has a Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Divinity Degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. She is also an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church. She enjoys the eclectic nature of her work and particularly enjoys working with young people and their families. She has been involved in the field of social work for many years.
Sister Conchetta LoPresti, OSF, MEd, LPC, NCC
Sister Conchetta is a Franciscan Sister with a background in education (elementary and special education) and Deaf ministry. She is fluent in American Sign Language and enjoys working with clients who are Deaf or families with members who may be disabled. She has a two Master’s degrees (education of the multi-handicapped and community counseling), is a licensed professional counselor (LPC), a certified addiction counselor (CAC) and a nationally certified counselor (NCC). She has been in the counseling field for 16 years.
Judi Lennon, LSW, MSW, CCDP
Judi began her work in social services after 30 years of service with a major utility company. She has been working in the social service field for 9 years. She began her work in a halfway house for women with drug and alcohol addiction and eating disorders, and has worked in drug and alcohol outpatient facilities. She specializes in drug and alcohol, sexual abuse issues, eating disorders and mental health issues. She has an associates degree in business administration from Robert Morris University, a bachelors degree in psychology from Carlow University and a masters degree in social work from the University of Pittsburgh. She received a certification in sexual abuse from Pittsburgh Action Against Rape and is a Certified Co-Occurring Diplomate Professional (CCDP) with the Pennsylvania Counseling Board and a member of the National Association of Social Workers. She also has extensive training in EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitation Reprocessing.
Louise C. Smail, MS
Louise Smail began her work in Community Counseling after seventeen years of service in factory work. She graduated in 2001 from the Community College of Allegheny County with an Associates Degree in Science and in December 2004 from California University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. In August 2006, she began her internship at Catholic Charities and graduated from California University of Pennsylvania in May 2007 with a Master of Science Degree in Community Counseling. She is also the secretary/clerk of her church. She enjoys working with people and specializes in spiritual counseling. She has been married for fifty-one years and uses her life experiences as a basis for her work.
